Brewoil vs Forest Essentials vs Kama Ayurveda Honest Comparison

How does Brewoil compare to Forest Essentials and Kama Ayurveda on price, processing, and product positioning? An honest side-by-side from a small-batch cold-press kitchen.

Brewoil Editorial · Updated May 2026 · 8-min read

This is going to be slightly uncomfortable to write because Forest Essentials and Kama Ayurveda are excellent companies. Both are pioneers of the Indian premium beauty category. But customers ask us the comparison constantly, so here it is — honestly.

I'll compare on the dimensions that matter: processing method, product breadth, price per ml, single-origin transparency, and category positioning. Then I'll tell you where each brand genuinely wins.

The positioning difference

Forest Essentials is luxury Ayurveda — a heritage brand built on royal Indian formulations, multi-ingredient products, and high-end retail (Forum Mall, DLF Emporio). Their average product is a multi-ingredient blend with ayurvedic herbs.

Kama Ayurveda is also Ayurvedic luxury, slightly more naturopath-focused. Heritage formulations, modern packaging, salon-grade quality.

Brewoil is single-ingredient cold-press. We don't blend (unless you build the blend yourself in our Brew Lab). We sell pure, traceable, batch-of-one botanical oils. Different category.

The processing comparison

BrandPressing MethodRefiningSingle-Origin?
Forest EssentialsMixed (cold-press + traditional Ayurvedic ghani)Some products refined for shelf lifeNot disclosed per product
Kama AyurvedaTraditional Ayurvedic methods, varies by productSome products use refined base oilsNot disclosed per product
Brewoil100% mechanical cold-press below 45°CNone — unrefinedYes, declared per bottle (Andalusia/Rajasthan/Kashmir/Ethiopia)

The processing winner depends on your priority. If you want a blended Ayurvedic experience with named herbs, Forest Essentials and Kama Ayurveda are the right choice. If you want a single-ingredient, traceable, lab-verified base oil, Brewoil is built specifically for that.

Price per ml

I converted everything to per-ml at the time of writing:

ProductBrewoil ₹/mlForest Essentials ₹/mlKama Ayurveda ₹/ml
Sweet Almond Oil₹4.3 (300ml @ ₹1299)₹14+ (typical 50–100ml blends)₹12+ (typical 100ml blends)
Rosemary Essential₹46.6 (15ml @ ₹699)₹75+₹65+
Argan Oil₹6.3 (300ml @ ₹1899)₹38+ (small bottles)Not sold pure

Brewoil is meaningfully cheaper per ml because we don't carry retail margin, don't blend (which costs both ingredients and shelf life), and ship direct from press to door.

"You're not paying for less quality. You're paying less because there's less middleman."

Product breadth

Forest Essentials has hundreds of products across face, body, hair, candles, gifting. Kama Ayurveda is similar — a complete luxury Ayurvedic system.

Brewoil has 41 oils. That's it. No body washes, no candles, no soap. We're specialized.

If you want a complete brand experience across categories, the big brands win. If you want the best cold-pressed oils available in India without the price-of-luxury markup, we win.

Frequently Asked

Are Forest Essentials and Kama Ayurveda 'pure' oils?

Some of their products are. Many are blends with carrier oil + herbs + sometimes preservatives. Check the ingredient list. Brewoil is 100% single-ingredient pure.

Why is Brewoil so much cheaper per ml?

Direct-to-consumer (no retail margin), single-ingredient (no blending labor), smaller marketing spend, and bottle size economics (300ml vs 50-100ml standard).

Is single-origin sourcing actually better?

Yes for trace consistency. A single farm produces oil with predictable fatty acid profile. Commodity-mixed oils vary batch-to-batch.

Can I mix Forest Essentials with Brewoil products?

Absolutely. Many of our customers use Brewoil's pure oils as a base and add 2-3 drops of Forest Essentials' fragrant oils. Best of both.
