How oils build thickness
Some oils coat and strengthen the strand so it resists breakage and feels denser; others carry actives that support the follicle and circulation. Combine a conditioning oil (for the hair you have) with a circulation oil (for the hair to come) for the best effect.
Consistency beats intensity
Thickness is a slow game — hair grows about a centimetre a month. Two to three sessions a week for several months will always beat occasional heavy oiling.
The best oils for hair thickening
1. Castor Oil
The classic thickening oil — coats and strengthens the strand so hair looks and feels denser. Blend with a lighter oil for easy washing.
2. Bhringraj Oil
Ayurveda’s premier hair oil for fuller growth and reduced shedding — the ideal scalp base for a thickening routine.
3. Rosemary Essential Oil
Supports follicle circulation — the most evidence-backed essential oil for density. Use diluted in a carrier.
4. Pumpkin Seed Oil
Studied for supporting hair count thanks to its fatty acids and phytosterols — a modern addition to a thickening blend.
5. Black Seed (Kalonji) Oil
Soothes the scalp and supports a healthier follicle environment, helping more hairs stay in the growth phase.
How to use
Massage a castor-plus-bhringraj blend into the scalp 2–3 times a week, leaving it 1–2 hours or overnight, then wash gently. Add 5 drops of rosemary per tablespoon of the blend for circulation support.
